The Vogue fashion festival this week-end (27th-28th April) was the second of its kind and all I can say is I hope there will be many, many more! Situated at the Southbank centre in London, ticket holders had free make-up by Dior & YSL, hair braided at the Vogue bar, nail varnish by Nails Inc and their very own faux-Vogue cover shoot! All of which was sampled before the highly anticipated lectures by the cream of the fashion world including designers; Michael Kors & Victoria Beckham,  Editors; Anna Dello Russo & Alexandra Shulman, models; Cara Delavigne and  David Gandy,  photographers Tom Craig & Mario Testino & bloggers/illustrators: Suzie ‘Bubble’ and Garance Dore who gave an insight into their work and lives in the fashion industry.

9,000 tickets were sold this year (up from 2,000 last year) and #Voguefestival was the highest trending tweet at one point with people around the world eager to hear what the experts had to say.

The biggest outcome of the festival though was how inspirational the speakers were, especially for any up & coming designer, blogger or enthusiasts.  To hear first hand how most of these highly skilled professionals started out from humble beginnings and yet have made their mark in the fashion world was extremely refreshing. There was also plenty of key points (some even unexpected) that people could take away with them, along with more hard hitting words of wisdom such as; everyone should love and respect their body shape (Too Fat Too Thin…Will we ever be content? (with Christa d’Souza, Daisy Lowe, David Gandy and Patsy Kensit) ) and following the collapse of the factory in  Bangladesh  it was recognised that it should be a turning point to labour conditions in fashion factories(Can Fashion Change the World? (with Livia Firth, Katherine Hamnett, Tom Craig and Vivenne Westwood).

I’m sure you will be readying many fashion blogs and articles about the week-end, but here are my favourite inspirational quotes:

“When you go into something with self-belief, you can make anything happen” – Natalie Massenet

“Be fearless, provocative and daring.”  -Donatella Versace

“The year has 365 days and I want each and every one of them to be exciting”  – Mario Testino

“You have to love yourself, with that, life can be harmonious” – Daisy Lowe

Be true to yourself, be unique and say something different – Christopher Kane

“over the years I have learned that one person thinks sushi is divine and another wants a hamburger. Not everyone wants the same menu.” – Michael Kors

“You can find inspiration in everything. If you can’t, then you’re not looking properly” – Paul Smith

“Why be like everybody else? Try to be like yourself” – Natalie Massenet

“You have to dare to reach what you want”  – Donatella Versace

“Fight for your ideas, fashion, music or whatever they are” – Donatella Versace

“You have to love yourself and be comfortable – that’s when life is harmonious”  – Patsy Kensit

“If someone is really good at what they do, and have that dream, it will happen”- Alber Elbaz

“You have to believe in yourself, and try hard. It’s about talent”-  Alber Elbaz

Finally, the mantra I have personally always abided by…….
“The only limits are the ones we put on ourselves” – Natalie Massenet
