New York Fashion Week is coming to an end and what a week it has been!
It certainly hasn’t been without the drama; what with aeroplane delays causing Marc Jacobs to delay his show by 3x days, and of course the heavy snowfall that made visiting the venue near on impossible!
But over the last few days, we have been lucky enough to watch live videos streamed from each of the shows in NY courtesy of Mercedes-Benz to help stylists such as myself compile our views on the emerging trends for A/W 2013.
What is clear is that red carpet glamour in luxurious, sexy cuts that truly flatter the feminine form are firmly on the fashion radar by the likes of; Zac Posen, Rafael Cennamo, Pamella Roland, Venexiana & Monique Lhuillier, which I’m sure we will see worn by celebrities at award ceremonies very soon. Pencil skirts and high-necked tops also enhance the ‘sophisticated’ look that is prominent, and for accessories, my view is that beanies are set to make a comeback!
Red however seems the popular ‘stand out’ colour for A/W this year chosen by designers such as; Noon by Noor, Vivienne Tam, Diane Von Furstenberg & Jill Stuart with olive green & emerald blue popping up by designers such as Sergio Davila & Katya Leonovich.
Monochrome still remains a string contender (thank goodness as it’s my favourite!), but it seems the book ‘50 Shades of Grey’ has been having an effect on our designers this year as grey is by far the most popular colour for A/W.
For those of you who are fashion savvy, there are also a few trends from recent months that look set to remain strong for winter including hints of leather (Kenneth Cole & Marissa Webb), leopard print (DKNY), metallic’s (David Tlale) and sheer (Alon Livne).
But if you are wanting to make a statement this winter, then oversized faux fur coats are the way to be noticed. Seen by a majority of designers including; Son Jung Wan, Custo Barcelona, BCBGMAXAZRIA & Jason Wu.
Of course these are just my predictions and I’m yet to see what my home town of London offers….but I’ll keep you posted.
